Jeremiah 1: 4 – 10, Luke 4: 21 – 30 – Rev. Erin Beardemphl – What is a prophet, and why are they so controversial? We read texts like Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Ezekiel, looking for wisdom and for God’s word, but during their time, their words were met with more anger and ridicule than acceptance. Even Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, no prophet is accepted in the prophet’s hometown,” right before he said something else that had his listeners ready to throw him off a cliff.
