Matthew 28: 16 – 20 – Jill A. Kirchner-Rose, MDIV, DMIN – Jesus’s final words to the disciples were “Go and make disciples of all nations.” It is called “The Great Commission.” The “great commission” must have seemed ludicrous to the tiny band of disciples. Why did the disciples not flee at the enormity of the mission? Perhaps the reason they did not run away in fear is because Jesus added these words of support, “And remember, I will be with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20).
In the year 2021, we hear the Great Digital Commission (to spread the good news not only with words, but through posts, videos, tweets, and our very lives). As we share the good news of Divine Love, whether online or in the flesh, we give thanks for the ways the Risen Christ is alive and at work within the RUCC faith community and the world. On this Covenant Sunday, let’s celebrate the Spirit who is on the move in our very midst!
