“Tomb or Womb?”

John 20: 1 – 18 – Jill A. Kirchner-Rose, MDIV, DMIN – After a year of living in a pandemic, we have a greater understanding of Lent. It feels like we’ve been living it for a year – sacrifice and reflection. Emptiness and uncertainty. Physical and social distancing has diminished our lives and challenged our communities. In some ways, we have become acquainted with tomb dwelling. What if, however, the darkness we experience is not the darkness of the tomb, but the darkness of the womb? What if this is our great transition to new life, to resurrected life? What if this is our moment to become, live, and move as the body of Christ we were always intended to be? In our scripture passage, Jesus says to Mary, “Do not cling to me.” Perhaps the message for Mary and us this Easter season is, “Do not cling to what was, but journey into what can be.” It’s Easter Day! Alleluia!
